Sexually
Transmitted
Diseases
are ailments caused by various kinds of sexual conducts.
This may include Vaginal intercourse, Oral sex, kissing
of the genitals etc. These diseases may occur due to improper
physical hygiene.
Though
each STD is unique, many share similar symptoms.
They can be painful, irritating, debilitating or, if untreated,
fatal. Others may have few identifiable symptoms,
and the victims may be unaware that they are infected.
Many infected persons resist seeking treatment for their
STDs because of ignorance or guilt. Others are reluctant
to inform their sex partners that they, too, may be infected
because of anxiety and fear that the revelation will damage
their reputation or relationship.
This
is unfortunate, even tragic, as nearly all STDs can be
cured through timely diagnosis and proper medical treatment.
Those few for which no immediate or complete cure is known
usually can be controlled through medication and preventative
measures.
STDs
are most common among sexually active teenagers and young
adults, particularly those who have multiple sex partners.
But no one is immune to STDs. It is important to understand
the causes of STDs and the sexual practices that put people
at risk of contracting them, their telltale signs and
symptoms, the methods of diagnosing and testing for them,
and the various ways of treating them. Without this knowledge,
the hazards STDs present are greatly increased, and the
likelihood of even more widespread infection is multiplied
many times over.
The
only sure way to prevent a sexually transmitted infection
is to limit one's sexual relationship to a single, uninfected
partner. Other preventative measures, such as using latex
condoms when having sex, may be effective at limiting
the risk of infection in certain instances
